Mahindra Thar E is an upcoming all-electric SUV concept, which is expected to be launched around 2026. It is a five-door version of the popular Mahindra Thar.
Showcasing a new design direction and using Mahindra’s INGLO EV platform, the Thar E aims to blend the robustness of the Thar with electric vehicle technology and sustainability.

Just a few months ago, Mahindra introduced two new SUV concepts – ScorpioN Pick Up and Thar.e. Out of these, Thar.e or Thar Electric has gained a lot of popularity as it could be India’s first electric off-road SUV.
Now, although the launch is expected in 2026, we are expecting 8 factors that could make its way to the production model.
Feature & Tech
- We have seen in many concept cars that brands have showcased stunning and sleek ORVMs. However, Mahindra has showcased a camera instead of a simple ORVM.
- But will it come to production? Probably yes.
- The Thar is an EV, so we can expect it to have cameras instead of conventional ORVMs.
- Also, we might see more EV cars with futuristic technology by 2026.
- So, in terms of features and technology, Mahindra will try to stay on par with the competition. But how will those cameras work?
- The cameras will transmit data to a screen inside the car, which will reduce distractions for drivers.
Design & Style
Talking about the interiors, the interiors of the Thar EV will have a futuristic design language. It will have a flat dashboard with a minimalistic design approach.
- The touch screen system will be well integrated with the dashboard so that it does not create any kind of distraction.
- Another cool feature of the Thar EV will be the new steering wheel. As shown in the concept, the Thar EV will have Mahindra’s next-generation steering wheel. Like Tata’s recent steering wheel, Mahindra’s steering wheel will also have illuminated brand badging.
- There will be an advanced digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. The Thar is an off-roader, so a lot of off-road information will be displayed on the instrument cluster. It will be a fully customizable, HD quality display.
Engine & Performance
Now let’s understand the INGLO platform in detail. The INGLO platform will be used in many upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs.
According to Mahindra, with the help of the INGLO platform, they will be able to make SUVs with a length of 4368mm to 4735mm.
- This platform will use Volkswagen MEB components in the form of electric motors.
- This platform will also meet all the safety regulations and Mahindra will expect a 5-star rating in the crash test.
- Lastly, Mahindra will be aiming for a ramp break-over angle of 20 degrees and a ground clearance of 218 mm!

- The second most important advantage of the INGLO platform will be its wheelbase.
- The Thar EV will be a long SUV, and hence its wheelbase will also be long.
- According to reports, the INGLO platform can produce a wheelbase of 2775mm to 2975mm.
- For example, the XUV700, which is already a large SUV, has a wheelbase of 2750mm.
- Also, the flat floor will create a feeling of more space inside the Thar EV.
Price & Variants
The Mahindra Thar e is the upcoming all-electric version of the popular Mahindra Thar SUV.
While the official launch date and pricing details are yet to be announced, it is expected to be priced between Rs 20-25 lakh ex-showroom.
The Thar E is likely to feature a battery pack between 60 kWh and 75 kWh, which will offer a driving range of over 400 kilometers on a single charge.
